Three Finger Jack 09/30/2012

Here is Three Finger Jack, it was a beautiful day to climb.

Here is the group climbing up the ridge, three of us had done this mountain before and there were three first timers.

Good views of Broken Top the Sisters and Mt. Washington from left to right.

Roger on a short chimney.

A section called the cliffhanger trail, this was the beginnig of the hard part of the climb.  Then came the section called "the Crawl" and the summit block.

Me on the ridge, you can see the fire damage of two years ago in the background.

A good view of the south ridge which we came up and "The Cliffhanger Trail" and "The Crawl" in the foreground.

Doug belaying Bruce on setting a fixed line on "The Crawl."

A great view a Mt. Jefferson on the summit block.

Ryan on the chimney on the summit block.

Roger rappeling and Ryan setting the fireman's belay as a backup.

Me climbing the last bit on the summit block.

Me on the summit of Three Finger Jack elevation 7,844 ft.

We made it to the top, but we still have to down climb which can be a little scary.

We used the scree decent with you can see in red that saved us a little time but the whole climb took about 13 hours.

Mt. Washington 09/16/2012

The Pole Creek fire had been going on a least a week near the Sisters, but Bruce decided we should at least go down to Mt. Washington before calling the climb off.  When we met up with him Saturday we decided to make the call Sunday morning.  We met at 5 am off the campsite near the PCT in Big Lake.

We decided to go for it, and the climb was on.  I was a little worn out as we climbed in the dark, I've been doing like a climb a month but I felt a little out of shape.  Here is the shadow of Mt. Washington.

Here's is the smoke from the fire, it is ecompassing Black Butte.  It king of followed us up the mountain before the winds changed in the afternoon.

Here is Joe on a protected part of the rock climb.  We had protection for over three pitches, which was I think the longest protected climb I've done.  The rock on Mt. Washington left something to be desired, it was like pummace, and lots of portable handholds.

Here is me on the summit, Ann made a sign as she does for every mountain which is a cool idea.

Here's a group shot in the summit of Mt. Washington  elevation 7,795 ft.

Broken Top 08/05/2012

I got a ride with Doug who climbed the Tatoosh with me and he brought along his wife who didn't make the climb but spent her time taking pictures around the campsite.  Also is our car was Celerina who was with me volunteering on Salmon River and Brinda who just graduated ICS and was the assistant.

It was a nice approach, with three log bridges over Fall Creek.  We camped at Green Lakes to get up early and beat the heat.

Here is Broken Top and the Green Lakes in the foreground.

I did a little swimming in Green Lakes, but I was careful not to get my head wet.  The water was pretty cold.

A great view of the sisters.  Broken Top has some of the best views for seeing all the Cascades mountains.

Here's is Brinda setting up the fixed line.

Here's me on the summit, Middle and North Sister in the background.

Here's a group shot on the summit of Broken Top elevation 9,175 ft.

The red mark is the scree decent that we took.  It was a little like skiing on tiny rocks, but it was faster than going down the way we came up.

Mt. Adams 07/08/12

Andrew and Karen invited me up to climb Mt. Adams.  With Heath and his wife for a BCEP reunion of sorts.

Here is the my tent on the Lunch Counter,  Mt. Hood in the background.

There were over 200 people scheduled to climb Mt. Adams this weekend, but the Lunch Counter where we camped still had plenty of room.

Here a shot I got of Mt. St. Helens at sunset from our camp.

We are climbing now, t-shirt weather for all day except for the summit.  I also met some friends that had climbed early in the day (Parker's group), and a group that had climbed Mazama Glacier on Friday and were leaving Saturday.

This is the false summit called Piker's Peak, but we are close to the top.

Here is my summit shot, Mount Rainier in the background.

Here is the summit shot of our group.  I think we made good time, in under four hours from the Lunch Counter to the summit of Mt. Adams elevation 12,281 ft.

The best part of the trip was coming down, there was a long glissade of 3,000 feet.   Some of the pictures are taken by my climb team and are copyrighted.

Rooster Rock 07/02/2012

Robin took up to Rooster Rock on Monday.  We had rescheduled it a couple times due to weather, but July turned out to be better than June I guess.  She had just graduated Advance Rock class so she led and placed protection while we prussiced up.

Almost to the top.

Dan at the top of the first pitch.  Rooster Rock was only two pitches.

Karen and Andrea climbing.

The group minus the photographer Karen.

Rudolph Spur Way Trail 06/11/2012

Rex led this hike to  Rudolph Spur Way Trail.  Rudolph Spur is an unmaintained trial straight up with a little bit of route finding.  We parked at the Char Burger in Cascade Locks. We then went on the PCT, towards Dry Creek before veering off towards a climbers trail to Rudolph Spur.

Mt. Adams

Group shot on a lookout, we could see Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainer and Mt. Adams.

We hiked down Ruckle Creek trail which was a rare treat because of it is so well maintained.

Bridge of the Gods from above.

Ruckle Creek falls from above.  We ended up on the Old Columbia Gorge Highway which was turned into a bike path.

Back at Char Burger, Bridge of the Gods and the Sternwheeler on the Columbia River.
