Tryon Creek Orgins 05/04/2012

Barry and I went on a walk to find the Tryon Creek origins.  We parked on Multnomah Village.

Here's in the Capitol Highway Viaduct.

It was a bit rainy but we waited and chose the perfect time to go.  We crossed the viaduct.

This is where we think the origins of Tryon Creek start.  Tryon Creek comes from a springs which is on private property.  This is the closest way we figured it came out, around SW Spring Garden and 37th.

Tryon Creek starts small traveling though culverts in back yards but it incorporates and number of smaller streams and creeks as well as the natural runoff from the valley.

Here Tryon Creek is has picked up steam.

Here Tryon Creek and Falling Creek merge.

Here we are right by Marshall Park and then it continues on to Tryon Creek State Park and then into the Willamette.

Wildwood Trail Zoo to St. John's Bridge 05/02/2012

I decided to hike the Wildwood Trail from the zoo.

Here's the bridge at Hoyt Arboretum.

Here's Pittock Mansion, I haven't been up here form quite a few years.   Good urban view of some hikes we've done.

Macleay Park from Cornell.

The Witches Castle

A good map of Forrest Park, I had a map but this one was a little better with more of the side trials listed.

It was getting a little late, and I've never gone on the Ridge Trial so I took it.

I was happily surprised with a great view of the St. John's Bridge and Mt. St. Helen's.

The stairs going up to the Ridge trail from Highway 30.

This guy had his dog on his backpack and was biking down Highway 30.

Herd of Deer on SW Portland 04/27/2012

Barry and I went on our weekly walk from Riverdale High School to Jackson Middle School and through Maricara Natural Area in SW Portland.  Imagine our surprise to see wildlife.  Here's a youtube link to Herd of Deer in SW Portland

There were other strange thing on this urban hike including this rhododendron which was at least two stories.

University of Portland 03/30/2012

Barry and I went up to University of Portland to hike.

The Cascade General Dry Docks.

What could this be used for?

Barry on the trail.

Here's a long culvert going into a creek, and then to the Willamette River.

Hamilton Mountian 03/24/2012

I was the assistant who led the BCEP Hamilton Mountain hike.

The students did really well, and we had nice weather for once.

Table Mountain

The Mazamas practically took over the parking lot to Hamilton Mountain.  There were three BCEP groups up there.

Hill Military Academy 03/23/2012

Barry took me up Hill Military Academy up by Rocky Butte.  In 1901 Joesph Hill started the Hill Military Academy, it is now a Christian college

He went to school there with his brother during his middle school years.
This was his dorm room.

This was where the classrooms were.

This was the cafeteria.

We later tried and failed to find a trail up to Rocky Butte so we drove on the main road.

Here's is Rocky Butte.  Built by the WPA in 1937-1939.

This is a great shot of the the Gothic lampposts framing Mt. St. Helen's.

We then went to the Rocky Butte trail where they have some rock climbing routes.  They're were a number of climber's trails up the rock climbs.

Pre-BCEP Hike 03/17/2012

I will be assisting Bruce's BCEP group.

It was Angel's Rest, and the group brought a bunch of good snacks for the potluck.
