Snow Camping Skill Builder 03/03/2012

I went on a Mazamas Skill Builder this weekend. There was a lecture during the week which discussed avalanche danger and the types of gear which may be needed.

When we got to the spot we were going to camp, we had to make our tent platforms and set up the two Megamids.

Here's a group member that made a snow trench.  This took about a hour and is what I would use in an emergency.

Here's the beginning of my snow cave.  I really like the G3 shovel I bought.  The snow cave took me about half a day.  At least four hours.

Here's me and Adam in the Megamid.  A Megamid is made by Black Diamond and is a tent used for cooking mainly used for cold weather expeditions.  The floor, and benches and table is carved out of ice and snow.

Here is my snow cave and the Mt. Hood.

A group shot of the class with Mt. Hood behind.  Some of photographs are taken my team and are copyrighted.
